Words

Deffrowch yn llon breswylwyr llwch
A chodwch, O chwychwi,
Datseiniwch oll ‘Hosanna’ a chân,
Mae’n lân wir Jiwbili:
Dihunwch chwi, rai tlawd a chaeth,
Hi ddaeth, hi ddaeth y dydd,
Mae’r Haul yn glir a’r hwyl i’n gwlad
A’r ffordd yn rhad a rhydd.
O Wele’r dydd, newyddion da,
Pob tlawd a chla’ clywch lef
Chwi sydd â d’led i’ch suddo hyd lawr,
O wynfyd wawr, y Meichiau mawr
A ddaeth yn awr o’r Nef.
Tangnefedd sydd, mae’n rhyfedd sôn,
Lles dynion, ‘Wyllys da
I ddynion drwg o’i ddawn ddidrai;
Druenus rai, dan bwyse’u bai,
Yn rhyfedd a’i mawrha.

A hwn yw’r Gair a wisgodd gnawd,
Fe wnawd yn Frawd i ni,
Ac yn ei Gnawd ag enwog nerth
Condemniai’r anferth ri.
Yn gymaint oll mai yng Nghnawd dyn
Daeth colyn gwenwyn gynt,
Yng nghnawd y dyn y cydiodd dawn
Bu’n rhyfedd iawn yr hynt:
Er dyfned oedd trueni dyn,
Mab Duw ei Hun wnâi hedd;
Aeth dan bob rhan, digofaint pryd,
Olrheiniai ar hyd ei Egwlys ddrud
Trwy’r byd, tu draw i’r bedd:
O’r cariad oedd yng nghalon Duw!
Rhyfedodd yw mewn dawn!
Gwaith Cariad rhad, Concweriad rhwydd
Yn chwalu chwydd hen sarffaidd swydd
Pob llid euogrwydd llawn.

Translation

Wake up joyfully, residents of dust
And arise, O you yourselves
Resound all ‘Hosanna’ and song
It is the pure true Jubilee
Wake up you poor and captive ones
Cometh, cometh the day
The sun is bright and the joy to our land
And the way is cheap and freely available
O see the day, good news
Every poor and sick (one) hear the exclamation
You who have been brought to sink down
From the bliss of dawn, the great Surety
Which comes now from Heaven
It is peace which is, it is strange to say,
The welfare of men, Good will
To evil men from his unceasing goodness;
Wretched ones, under the weight of their sins
Wonderfully to magnify him.

And this is the Word who wore flesh,
He became a brother to us
And in his Flesh and famous power
He will condemn the great king (i.e. Satan)
So much so in the flesh of man
Came the first sting of poison
In human flesh he grasped the opportunity
It was very wonderful the achievement:
Since deep was the sorrow of man,
The Son of God Himself made peace;
He went under every part, the wrath of the time
His beloved church would follow along
Through the world, from beyond the grave
From the love which was in God’s heart!
Wonder is in a (such a) gift!
The work of free Love, a complete Conquest
Breaking down the wound of the old serpent’s rule
Every sore of full guilt.
